Reflections On the Walking Dead

Wednesday, January 1, 2024

The more I grow in Spirit, the more I realize there is no good thing in my flesh. The mind of the flesh is the realm of sin and death - but the mind of the Spirit is the realm of life and peace.

The mind of the Spirit is life and peace because the Spirit makes things right inside us. There is never peace where and when things are not right. Only after things are made right on the inside do we feel the peace of God begin to fill us from deep within until it overflows to the outward world around us.

Only after we sow seeds of the Spirit do we reap the fruits of the Spirit.

We may have to humble ourselves and apologize, or pay back what we have stolen, or forgive someone who has wronged us - but one thing is certain - no peace of God will rest in our souls until things are made right between us and the Spirit of truth dwelling within us. The Spirit of Christ in us “is” our righteousness.

The flesh is the enemy of the Spirit. This is the great struggle which takes place inside every believer. When we follow the carnal mind - the mind of the flesh - we are walking contrary to the mind of Christ in us.

When we follow the mind of the flesh we enter the realm of the dead, where the spiritually dead of this world wander across the earth desiring only to feed on things of the flesh. They have no spiritual life, no awareness of spirit at all. They are blind to anything and everything except the world of the flesh. They only want more flesh.

The realm of the flesh is the realm of this present evil world. It is a world where Christ is crucified among men every day, and yet they are indifferent, dead to it all - their dead hearts cannot feel the Spirit of the Lord, their blind eyes cannot see the Lord walking among us, and their deaf ears cannot hear the good news that is shouted around the world by the voice of the Spirit. They are truly the “walking dead”.

To the spiritual mind, the realm of the flesh is just a graveyard. By faith we overcome the perpetual onslaught of the spiritually dead, the true zombies of this world, those who roam this earth fulfilling the desires of the flesh, dead to the things of the Spirit.

In the Spirit, we walk among the tombs, speaking life to those sleeping souls whom Christ is now calling to life by the voice of the Spirit. We walk in a spiritual kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy. A spiritual realm of faith, sacrifice, and empathy for others. When we walk in the Spirit, we slay all zombies with the sword of the Spirit, wielded by the hand of faith.

The walking dead don’t stand a chance against the Spirit of life.
